FSSC 22000

Food safety in the food supply chain

FSSC 22000 provides an internationally standardized format that allows organizations to give evidence of their comprehensive management system for food safety. This new certification system for the food industry was created by merging the food safety standard ISO 22000:2005 with the publicly available specification BSI PAS 220:2008 or rather, ISO/TS 22002:2009. The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognizes the FSSC 22000 certification system, which was developed by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification (FSSC) in the Netherlands, within the scope of GFSI Benchmarking.

FSSC 22000 was created for the certification of food safety systems of organizations in the food that process or manufacture animal products*, perishable vegetables and fruits, products with a long shelf life, as well as food ingredients like additives, vitamins, or bio-cultures.

*except for slaughter and pre-slaughter
